Researchers have detected a new type of ransomware that can be ‘rented’ by cyber criminals from other criminals.
It is called Ransomware as a Service, or RaaS for short, and it provides criminals who have little technical knowledge with fully functioning ransomware, Security.nl writes. The “service” costs $ 175, including updates.
The criminals who hire the ransomware purchase the right to the distribution of this malicious software; they need to spread it themselves. This is often done through email attachments. Every time a victim pays a ransom, a small part of that money goes to the developers of this malware.
