A 76-year-old from the seaside village of Koksijde has lost € 18,000 as a result of an email phishing scam, Belgian police report on Facebook.
The man received a fake email purporting to come from Argenta bank. It informed him that a new bank card would be issued. The man clicked on a link to request the new card. He was redirected to a website that looked exactly like the site of his bank. Next, the victim received a telephone call from someone who offered to help him request the card. Unfortunately, this person turned out to be a con man, who cheated the senior citizen out of his money.
