Update: phone sex letters followed up by reminders

7 December 2017

A Czech company has followed up the dubious invoices it sent last month with reminder notifications. Recipients are complaining to Fraud Help Desk about these notices.

In November, Fraud Help Desk published a warning about letters sent by the company by the name of RMS. These letters informed recipients that they were due €90 for dialing a telephone sex line. Virtually none of the people who reported to Fraud Help Desk said they had ever made such a call.

Our advice
If you happen to be one of the recipients of these letters, we advise you not to pay immediately. Find out first whether someone in your household may have called this line. If this is the case, please contact your provider and ask them to explain what the charges are based on. Make sure you don’t pay twice: by paying the invoice on top of your regular telephone bill.

If you, or anyone else in your household, didn’t make that call, then we advise you to object to the invoice in writing. This means that you write a letter asking RMS what their claim is based on. Add that you won’t pay until you receive full clarification. Unfortunately, this won’t guarantee that the company will now leave you in peace.
