Threatening language in new fake email from ‘CJIB’

6 June 2017

A scam email is doing the rounds threatening recipients that their bank account will be closed down. There is no cause for alarm, this email is fake.

The message purports to come from the CJIB, the Centraal Justitieel Incassobureau or Central Fine Collection Agency – an executive agency of the Dutch Ministry of Security and Justice. The ministry’s name is also mentioned in the email.

Your bank account will be closed, supposedly  because you  have failed to pay a traffic fine. You can avoid this penalty by paying the amount due ( € 151.99) by Dutch online payment system iDEAL. Remarkably, the scammers refer recipients to the Tikkie website, which offers a relatively new and entirely legal payment service. Tikkie provides the opportunity to make fast payments and allows scammers to remain anonymous when they collect their money.
