Crooks pretending to be working for the Dutch Data Protection Authority (AP) are targeting companies over the phone to tell them they’ve been fined.
The cold callers say the website of the company they are calling doesn’t comply with the new GDPR privacy regulation. On its website, AP has published a warning about these telephone calls. The authority says it’s nothing to do with them. It stresses that the organisation will always launch a proper investigation before imposing any fines. The AP urges companies to report such suspicious phone calls by dialling 088 – 1805 250.
It’s the second time in a short period that the AP is warning of these copycat scams. In early June, these scams involved crooks offering companies a so-called GDPR quality label (AVG in Dutch).
