Fake invoice from ‘International Organisation Intellectual Property’

17 July 2018

A company calling itself International Organisation Intellectual Property (IOIP) is sending out fake invoices to Dutch businesses. These letters look like invoices, but the small print reads that they are offers for trademark registration in an unofficial database for the period of one year.

Here is an example of this fake invoice (click to enlarge):

Our advice
Throw any such bogus bill from into the shredder. There will be no repercussions if you don’t pay.

If you have inadvertently paid this invoice, you can consider the money lost. Morevoer, by paying this ‘invoice’, you will enter into a new agreement. And after one year, the agreement will be renewed unless it is terminated no later than three months before the end of the term.

It is advisable to file a report with the police about this advertising scam.
